catabolite activator protein
Abbreviation: CAP
A protein which combines with cyclic AMP. The cAMP-CAP complex binds to the promoter regions of E. coli and stimulates transcription of the relevant operon.
Synonyms: catabolite regulator protein (CRP), cyclic AMP receptor protein.
