co-linearity
1. A general relationship in which the units in one molecule occur in the same sequence as the units in another molecule which they specify; e.g. the nucleotides in a gene are co-linear with the amino acids in its encoded polypeptide.
2. The phenomenon whereby gene order is preserved between distinct species.
